Heat stress occurs when an animal is no longer able to control its body temperature due to high temperatures and humidity. This has consequences for the health of the animals. They become slow, eat less and their defenses decrease. Animals with heat stress can get sick and eventually die.
Heat stress costs a lot of money for intensive livestock farming in the form of increased costs due to illness and reduced yields due to lower productivity.
